UNICEF-GOTG COUNTRY PROGRAMME OF COOPERATION 2007-2011 MID-TERM REVIEW

September 2009 saw the Mid-Term Review of the Government of The Gambia –UNICEF Country Programme of Cooperation 2007-2011, which aims to achieve the outcomes related to children and women specified by the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the United Nations Development Action Framework (UNDAF), and The Gambia’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers.

The country programme focuses on three key areas: Child Survival and Development, Basic Education, and Child Protection and Social Policy Advocacy, and is implemented primarily in the Upper River Region and selected communities in Kanifing Municipality. Both these areas have very poor indicators for children and women - including poverty, access to safe water and sanitation, birth registration, child protection and school attendance - compared to national averages. The Policy Analysis Unit, Office of the President, is responsible for the overall co-ordination of the Programme of Co-operation.

Outcomes of the Mid-Term Review will be used to make course corrections to the country programme for smoother implementation and stronger impact in the second half of the programme.
