ZALAMBESSA, Ethiopia, 26 November 2004 - It was a scene straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster. In a blur of dust and dancing figures, the entire population of this village streamed onto the main road, white-robed women ululating and swaying, children running and clapping.

Berhane Adere is an Olympic gold-medal hopeful and reigning world champion in 10,000-metre. Ms. Adere speaks out frequently on behalf of girls' education and the importance of sport and is considered a role model in her native Ethiopia. She is  a National Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.

Les mariages précoces limitent les possibilités des filles en Éthiopie
Tizalem, une fillette de 12 ans, s'appuie contre le mur de la case de ses parents dans un village de la région d'Amhara en Éthiopie. Elle attend la venue de la coiffeuse qui va bientôt arriver pour lui natter les cheveux. C'est la veille de son mariage avec Gegahun, qui a 24 ans.
