International partnerships: Montblanc
Montblanc has been a dedicated supporter of UNICEF since 2004 contributing over US$1 million to education and literacy programmes for children worldwide.
Montblanc's support to UNICEF
Montblanc has supported UNICEF's education programmes for children through its "Sign Up for the Right to Write" and the "Power to Write" global fundraising initiatives launched in 2004 and 2007 respectively, which have collectively raised over US$ 1 million to benefit UNICEF.
In 2009, Montblanc renewed its commitment towards the common goal of working for children's right to literacy and education in launching the 2009-2010 "Signature for Good" initiative to benefit UNICEF, which raised over US$ 4 million between June 1, 2009, and May 31, 2010.
2009-2010 "Signature for Good" Campaign
For its global "Signature for Good" initiative, Montblanc developed a unique collection of writing instruments, jewelry and accessories to help raise funds to support UNICEF in their work to provide a quality education to all children.
For every item of the specially designed collection, sold in Montblanc boutiques and retailers between 1 June 2009 and 31 May 2010, Montblanc had committed to donate part of the proceeds to UNICEF with a minimum guarantee of US$ 1.5 million. The results exceeded the expectations as a total of US$ 4,356,050 were raised to benefit UNICEF.
In support of the in-store activity Montblanc organized an auction to benefit UNICEF. The items auctioned were portraits from American photographer Roger Moenks of 12 internationally known actresses: Emily Blunt, Marcia Cross, Andie MacDowell, Helen Hunt, Lauren Hutton, Milla Jovovich, Jessica Lange (UNICEF ambassador), Eva Longoria, Sienna Miller, Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon (UNICEF ambassador) and Mira Sorvino.
The portraits were unveiled on Friday 20th February 2009 in Los Angeles at a gala event hosted by Montblanc in cooperation with Signature International.
The portraits were then sent on a world tour in Hong-Kong (April 2nd 2009), NY (May 8th 2009) and London (June 25th 2009) to be presented to the public. This tour allowed collectors and enthusiasts to view the portraits and place silent bids for them.
On September 17th 2009 the portraits were finally auctioned at an event organized by Montblanc in Los Angeles. Each portrait was auctioned with a one of a kind Montblanc writing instrument set with diamonds and sapphires.
Programmes and countries funded
Half of the 2009-2010 funds were allocated to 'Schools for Africa,' a joint initiative established in 2004 by UNICEF and the Nelson Mandela Foundation to promote education for all children in Africa. The other funds were allocated to education programmes in Asia and Latin America.
The campaign aims to increase access to quality basic schooling for all, with a special emphasis on helping the most disadvantaged - including children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and children living in extreme poverty. The balance of funds will support education programmes in Latin and Central America and Asia.
