In June 2000, Quinton Fortune of Manchester United visited UNICEF projects in Uganda, as part of the United for UNICEF partnership.

Quinton met with children who have been affected by armed conflict, and saw the devastating impact that HIV/AIDS has on children in a country where there are more than a million children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Quinton also lead a football clinic with over 500 schoolgirls in the Mandela National Stadium in order to promote education for girls and show that girls can do anything that boys can.

"This has been a remarkable visit for me --as someone who leads such a privileged life -- to be reminded about everything we take for granted," said Fortune. "UNICEF is doing some fantastic work here, and I've met some amazing characters. It is also very heartening to see football used as such an international tool to break down barriers and to build new relationships."
