Edwin Tenorio is one of the most recognizable football players in Ecuador.

Edwin Tenorio, one of the best known football players in Ecuador, joins UNICEF and FIFA in the UNITE FOR CHILDREN  UNITE FOR PEACE campaign for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

It’s not the first time he has supported UNICEF. Recently, Mr. Tenorio and some of his partners on the Ecuadorian national football team recorded a series of spots promoting UNICEF´s campaign on access to education for all. He also supports a non-governmental organization that works to preserve the environment in the province of Esmeraldas, where he was born.

Mr. Tenorio started his football career in 1995 on his hometown football team, Esmeraldas Petrolero. After being part of a Sub-20 South American competition, he was hired by the Aucas club, which moved him into the professional category.

Strategic linchpin

His strength and passion for the game made him a key factor in each match – and in 1998 he became part of the Ecuadorian national team. In 2002, he played for the first time in a World Cup and made big news because of his performance as an outstanding midfielder.

Nowadays, Mr. Tenorio plays for the local Ecuadorian team Barcelona Guayaquil, which has played in important South American competitions as well as the national championship.

Without a doubt, Mr. Tenorio has become a strategic linchpin of the Ecuadorian national team. His commitment to the game has made him a key player. But his commitment to his country and the world’s children is even more admirable.
