2 to 3: HIV prevalence among young women in Southern Africa is 2 to 3 times higher than among young men

Millennium Development Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
 
Target: Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS
 
There is strong consensus based on evidence that girls and young women remain disproportionately vulnerable to HIV infection in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in the hyper-endemic countries, where prevalence is greater than 15 per cent.
 
In Southern Africa, adolescent women are 2 to 3 times more likely to be infected than males of the same age.
