UNICEF, in partnership with the World Bank, UN Economic Commission for Europe, IDEAS (International Development Evaluation Association), IOCE (International organization for Cooperation in Evaluation), DevInfo and MICS, published "Country-led M&E Systems. Better evidence, better policies, better development results". This book brings together the vision, lessons learned and good practices from twenty-one stakeholders on how country-led monitoring and evaluation systems can enhance evidence-based policy making. A presentation with key findings is also available.
This book builds on the previous publication "Bridging the gap. The role of M&E in evidence-based policy making" published in 2008 and presented/distributed in major M&E conferences worldwide.
“Country-led” does not mean “Government-led” only. Civil society has a major role to play in ensuring the best evidence available is used to decide public policies. The good news is that the number – and influence of - national and regional evaluation professional organizations have increased dramatically in the last 10 years. IOCE, in partnership with UNICEF, published the book “Creating and developing evaluation organizations. Lessons learned from Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe” to document this movement.
