UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for orphans and vulnerable children

Kenenisa Bekele

Kenenisa signed to serve as Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF in July 2004. The Ethiopian world leader Athlete Kenenisa is born in 1982 in Bekoji, Arsi. He runs for 5000 and 10,000 meters.

Kenenisa won gold medal in the 10,000 meters followed by silver medal in the 5,000 meters in the Athens 2004 Olympics. UNICEF Representative, Mr. Bjorn Ljungqvist in his interview with the Sub-Sharan Informer said “Kenenisa is someone who everyone knows in Ethiopia, looks up to and admires. If  Kenenisa says something, the people of Ethiopia will listen much more than if I say something. He is a very suitable Ambassador.”
