Zimbabwe, 5 November 2013: UNICEF and the Swedish Embassy in Zimbabwe meet to review progress
HARARE, November 2013 - A team from the Swedish embassy in Zimbabwe recently met with UNICEF to review progress on programmes supported by Sweden through the thematic funds.
Led by the Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Lars Ronnas, the meeting reviewed key results achieved by UNICEF in the five focus areas of the Medium Term Strategic Plan (MTSP). These are young child survival and development, basic education and gender equality, child protection, HIV and AIDS, and social policy and advocacy.
“We have enjoyed excellent cooperation with UNICEF and we think you are doing a great job,” said Ambassador Ronnas. “Our development cooperation is increasingly being directed towards agencies that can demonstrate results. This meeting is therefore intended to enable us to learn more about your work and to be able to report on it to our headquarters. Demonstrating a link between decisions of the UNICEF Executive Board and the work being done at country level is extremely important to us.”
UNICEF Representative, Reza Hossaini thanked Sweden for the support that it has continued to give over the years and the difference it has made for the most vulnerable children and women in Zimbabwe.
“We appreciate your continued support for children’s rights in Zimbabwe that has ensured that children and women are put at the center of the country’s development efforts. We hope to continue working together and improve the lives of children in the country.”
