In 2010, UNICEF embraced a refocus on issues of equity and adjusted our organizational efforts to address the poorest and most underserved children and communities. The shift was grounded in evidence that it was strategically “right in principle and right in practice.” The Division of Communication (DoC) has since affirmed its goal - and promise - to provide the necessary leadership to support our country offices with the knowledge and experiences they need to develop and promote the scale-up of proven interventions and ensure children’s basic rights in line with the new Equity Agenda.
Working with country offices, DoC has forged a collaborative effort to leveraged our capacity in order to develop and publish a series of country office case studies that highlight strategic, equity-focused initiatives, share good practice and inspire new approaches to our programming and planning across the organization.
The model for development of the case studies is bilateral and collaborative; most of the cases have been proposed by Country Office experts seeking to share equity-related progress and lessons learned from their Social Policy, Child Protection, Innovation and Technology, Partnerships, Communication and Advocacy work. Other cases have been solicited by DoC based on initiatives described in the Country Annual Reports or presented by programme officers at the Headquarters.
We hope that these cases make valuable references for informing country-level programming decisions. We are proud of this contribution to promote UNICEF’s equity-focused work.
