Policy Statement for the Integration of a Gender Perspective in Humanitarian Assistance (IASC, 1999)
The agreed conclusions of ECOSOC's 1998 humanitarian affairs segment requested the Emergency Relief Coordinator to "ensure that a gender perspective is fully integrated into humanitarian activities and policies" (E/1998/L.15 of 16 July 1998). This policy paper is a result thereof.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, S/RES/1325 (2000)
This Resolution reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and in peace-building, and stresses the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security, and the need to increase their role in decision-making with regard to conflict prevention and resolution.

Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action from the Report of the Fourth World Conference on Women, A/CONF.177/20 (1995)
The Platform for Action reaffirms the fundamental principle set forth in the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, adopted by the World Conference on Human Rights, that the human rights of women and of the girl child are an inalienable, integral and indivisible part of universal
human rights. As an agenda for action, the Platform seeks to promote and protect the full enjoyment of all human rights and the fundamental freedoms of all women throughout their life cycle.

Women, Peace and Security: Study submitted by the Secretary-General pursuant to Security Council Resolution 1325 (2002)
This study is an initiative undertaken in response to Security Council resolution 1325 on women, peace and security adopted in October 2000 – in which the Council underlined the vital role of women in conflict solution, and mandated a review of the impact of armed conflict on women and girls, the role of women in peacebuilding, and the gender dimensions of peace processes and conflict resolution.

Women’s Participation in Disaster Relief and Recovery by Ayse Yonder with Sengul Akcar and Prema Gopalan (Population Council, 2005)
Too little attention has been given to the gender-differentiated effects of natural disasters, that is, women’s losses relative to men’s, how women’s work time and conditions change (both in terms of care-giving and income-generating work), or how disaster-related aid and entitlement programs include or marginalize affected women. The case studies in this publication suggest that as the numbers of disasters
increase, donors would do well to invest in the collective organizing power of affected women.

Masculinities: Male Roles and Male Involvement in the Promotion of Gender Equality (Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children, 2005)
The golal of this study was the development of a resource packet on masculinities and male inclusion in gender mainstreaming covering definitions, approaches, application in the refugee context and tools. Male inclusion/masculinities have been a gap in gender mainstreaming efforts and are vital in order to move the gender equality agenda forward.
