Donor Update - 18 February 2005
UNICEF would like to thank all our donors for the generous international contributions provided in favour of children affected by the earthquake that hit the city of Bam on 26 December 2003. The earthquake killed 31,000 people, injured 30,000 and made 75,000 homeless. Almost one third of all school children were killed. Within the first 48 hours, UNICEF delivered two planeloads of essential supplies such as emergency sanitation equipment, health and obstetric kits, blankets, generators and other shelter supplies. Since then, UNICEF has focused on providing water and sanitation, child protection, education and health and nutrition. Donor Update - 6 February 2004
A month after an earthquake registering 6.3 on the Richter scale reduced the area Bam, Iran, to rubble and dust, and took more than 31,000 lives on 26th December 2003, more people have been coming back to resume their lives in Bam – some 75,000 made homeless in the disaster. The scale of the disaster being so massive, reconstruction and full recovery of the city of Bam and its surrounding villages are expected to take years.

UNICEF Flash Appeal - 13 January 2004
On 26 December 2003, an earthquake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale, struck the city of Bam in south-east Iran. Over 30,000 people were killed, more than 30,000 injured and over 75,000 made homeless. Within 48 hours, UNICEF was able to deliver 60 tons worth of relief supplies. The priority areas for UNICEF will continue to be potable water and safe sanitation, care for unaccompanied and distressed children, immunization, and meeting the immediate nutritional needs of vulnerable children, as well as the mobilization of primary-aged school children to school.
