Creating leadership
I am María Ernestina Pilca. I am sixteen years old. I am from the community of Los Andes de Cayambe and I am Kichwa. I study at Dolores Cacuango high school, named after the indigenous leader who founded the first bilingual school in Ecuador. Like her, I think that we indigenous people must educate ourselves so our voice can be heard.
In my community we are working with children and adults. Before, we didn’t participate much because the leaders and authorities didn’t pay attention to us . Now we are organized.
We are the present and future of Ecuador. We have to continue to fight for the respect of our land and our culture so we are not defeated, and so we can live as indigenous peoples.
