Haiti - Shaping a better future
Since 1995 European Union Humanitarian Aid Department (ECHO) support in Haiti has strengthened the ability of UNICEF and its partners to prepare for emergencies and take the lead in responding to crises. This backing proved crucial in 2008, when the country suffered a severely damaging storm season. The partnership was strengthened in early 2009 when the European Commission re-opened its Haiti office to more effectively monitor and respond to increasing humanitarian challenges.
