United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural OrganizationPromoting Education for All (EFA) is a top priority for UNESCO, and the organization’s primary focus in DRP Korea. UNESCO promotes education as a fundamental right in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The organization also advocates improved quality of education through diversification of contents and methods and the promotion of universally shared values. Furthermore, it promotes experimentation, innovation and the diffusion and sharing of information and best practices as well as policy dialogue in education. UNESCO cooperates closely with the Ministry of Education, the DPR Korea National Commission for UNESCO and with UNICEF to assist the country in reaching out to other countries to share information and learn from one another’s experiences, and to assist them in drafting their EPA Plan of Action. UNESCO’s global objective is that by 2015 adult illiteracy is eradicated and there is universal education for all children.
