NEW YORK, 16 June 2005 – UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Rima Salah recently accepted a donation of one million Skywards Miles (frequent flyer miles) from Emirates, the international airline of the United Arab Emirates.
“The miles are for UNICEF staff to use to travel around the world, on missions they have in terms of helping the children,” explained Nigel Page, Emirates’ Senior Vice President Commercial Operations for the Americas.
In 2004, the company also asked customers to contribute miles from their personal accounts to UNICEF, generating an additional 3 million Skywards Miles to the total received thus far.
Ms. Salah accepted the contribution and expressed her appreciation. “Thank you very much. We hope this alliance will thrive and become even better,” said Ms. Salah.
