Given by the U.S.-based organization World of Children, Inc., the awards aim to bring international acclaim and attention to people and organizations making a difference for children.
Created in 1998, the World of Children Awards now include three categories:
1. World of Children Health Award - recognizes an individual who has made a significant lifetime contribution to children in the fields of health, medicine or the sciences. This person will have created, managed or otherwise supported a sustainable program(s) which has significantly contributed to the health and well-being of children. [$50,000 award]
2. World of Children Humanitarian Award - recognizes an individual who has made a significant lifetime contribution to children in the areas of social services, education or humanitarian services. This person will have contributed to children's opportunities to learn and to grow. [$50,000 award]
3. World of Children Founder's Award - recognizes a young person under the age of 21, who is making extraordinary contributions to the lives of other children. In 2007, WOC will recognize two youths. [$15,000 to each youth awardees]
