Why: UNICEF is renewing its efforts to ensure that every child is given the best start in life and calling on pediatricians to join the campaign. Pediatricians form the front line of children’s health care and UNICEF needs their support to help empower government, communities and families to work for all children.
The early childhood years tend to receive the least attention and lowest investment from governments. Every year, some 132 million infants around the world attempt an extraordinary sprint – from defenceless newborns to pro-active three-year-olds. Out of 100 children born in 2000:
