The Italian Committee for UNICEF was founded in 1974. Its mandate is to advocate for children’s rights and raise funds to support UNICEF programmes in developing countries.
UNICEF has a strong presence in Italy, with more than 100 Subcommittees managed by volunteers and a professional staff based in Rome. Advocacy for children’s rights and fundraising is an integral part of the Italian Committee’s awareness-raising campaigns, which involve a wide number of stakeholders: citizens, schools and universities, mayors and local authorities, hospitals, companies, NGO partners, Goodwill Ambassadors, the media and the government.
There are many ways to support UNICEF in Italy. Individuals may make a donation, join the “Amici dell’UNICEF” with a monthly contribution, buy UNICEF greeting cards and products, adopt a “Pigotta” (the popular doll whose price helps UNICEF vaccinate a child) and leave a legacy for children..
Companies can undertake a co-marketing with UNICEF or join the “Natale Aziende”, buying UNICEF greeting cards instead of Christmas gadgets.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering for UNICEF in Italy can get in touch with the nearest local Subcommittee. Young and adult volunteers are an outstanding resource for our advocacy campaigns and can spread the UNICEF message widely among peers, colleagues and in their workplace.
