新德里板球运动员帮助儿童接种小儿麻痹疫苗

在印度新德里，巴基斯坦板球运动员索艾博.阿克哈塔，在消灭小儿麻痹杯活动的启动仪式上为一名幼儿免疫。

印度新德里，2007年12月10日。最近在新德里，值得儿童们期盼的惊喜是来自印度和巴基斯坦的顶级板球运动员组成的球队和医务人员一起参加了唤起公众关注的被命名为“消灭小儿麻痹杯”的免疫活动。

世界公认的速度最快的投球手，巴基斯坦板球运动员索艾博.阿克哈塔说：“无论我干什么，为了儿童或其他类似的事，我总是有时间的。”

参加帮助儿童免疫工作的还有来自巴基斯坦的板球运动员索艾博.马里克，和来自印度的板球运动员阿尼尔.卡宝。运动员们和青年们谈笑风生。联合国儿童基金会驻印度的代表贾尼.马兹向两队表示了祝贺，指出在他们的支持下，印度和巴基斯坦也许在不久的将来就会看到小儿麻痹会被彻底根除。

支持正在进行的工作

“消灭小儿麻痹杯”活动是由国际扶轮会、联合国儿童基金会和世界卫生组织在印度政府的支持下，于2003年在印度开始的。这个活动通过专门启动的被称为国家免疫日的活动，支持目前印度政府开展的保护儿童的工作。更具地方色彩的活动是亚国家免疫日，它主要针对印度易受小儿麻痹感染的部分地区，尤其是北方邦和比哈尔邦。

印度和巴基斯坦是世界上最后几个仍存有小儿麻痹流行病的国家之一，另外还有尼日利亚和阿富汗。

“消灭小儿麻痹杯”

最近举行的印度和巴基斯坦板球系列赛受到这两个国家民众的欢迎。运动员们意识到这是一个向家庭传递小儿麻痹一定会被消灭的信息的绝佳机会。

为了显示他们对“消灭小儿麻痹杯”的支持，活动期间的特别项目，板球运动员们帮助进行儿童免疫，在板球比赛期间发表电视讲话。

上个月，印度的板球运动员鲁德拉.普拉泰普.辛接受了印度北方邦首席部长素喜莉.马雅瓦蒂在为期一天的印度和巴基斯坦的特别赛事后，颁发的特别奖项。

辛先生在接受嘉奖后说：“我们希望每个父母和每个人尽其所能地参与小儿麻痹项目。我们希望在北方邦消灭小儿麻痹。”
