联合国儿童基金会关注中国受强震影响的儿童

5月12日毁灭性的地震后，第一个生还者被从都江堰市聚源镇学校倒塌的校舍下救出。

中国四川，2008年5月13日。周二，联合国儿童基金会对在中国西南地区强震中受到影响的儿童表示了急切的担心。倒塌的房屋和学校造成至少60名学生死亡，最新的统计数字显示，4700多名儿童被埋在倒塌建筑物的废墟下。

“今天，有关破坏性地震的信息到达的非常缓慢。每条信息都预示着搜寻到了另一批在学校倒塌的校舍下挣扎求生的学生，”联合国儿童基金会代表兼联合国灾害管理小组中国的主席魏瑛瑛博士说，“我们非常担心灾难造成的影响，特别是对儿童的影响。”

联合国儿童基金会和联合国驻中国的机构随时准备应政府的请求提供援助。

7.8级的地震袭击四川省汶川县时正值学校上课和各单位办公时间。它摧毁了附近的城镇，据称到目前为止共有11921人遇难，有8个省和直辖市受到影响，其中一些在山区，地势险恶，很难进入。

搜寻幸存者

当天早些时候，在北川县学校教学楼倒塌后，救援人员在雨中寻找幸存者。大约1000名学生和教师遇难或失踪。

“现在我们需要食物和水，”学生陈玲琳的同学说。

救援人员在都江堰市聚源镇中学倒塌的废墟中搜寻生还者。

还有一些来自其它地震地区的报告令人担忧。

在都江堰受灾最严重的地区之一的向峨乡中学教学楼倒塌，420名学生中仅有不到100名学生生还。这增加了较早有900名都江堰聚源镇中学的同学被埋废墟下的数量。

“我们急需空投帐篷、食品、医药和卫星通信设备。我们还需要医务工作者救护这里受伤的人员，” 汶川县委书记王斌说，新华通讯社报道。
