China's New World Department Store supports UNICEF by holding auctions at its flagship Beijing outlet and donating the proceeds to AIDS orphans. Over the Chinese holidays in 2004, New World held a three-day auction that raised 9,000 RMB for AIDS orphans in Henan Province, a location hit hard by HIV/AIDS. New World Department Store plans more fundraising events in the future. In the meantime, it has created 30 UNICEF donation boxes and placed them in stores across the country. In addition, guests at Jing Guang New World Hotel in Beijing (part of the New World Group) will find donation envelopes in their rooms. All money received as part of this “Pledge for Children” campaign goes toward girls' education
