Starwood Hotels and ResortsCheck Out for Children™ Check Out for Children is a simple fundraising concept that has generated millions of dollars worldwide to immunize poor children against fatal diseases. Conceived by Starwood Hotels and Resorts and launched in 1995, the scheme invites guests staying at any participating hotel to add US $1 or its equivalent to their bill when checking out. To date, Starwood hotels—Sheraton, Westin, Four Points by Sheraton, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, and W Hotels—have raised US $4 million in Asia Pacific and nearly US $10 million worldwide through the program. Check Out for Children's three top fundraisers in Asia Pacific for 2003 were the Sheraton Fiji Resort, The Westin Sydney, and The Westin Melbourne. Together these hotels raised nearly US $100,000 for UNICEF. In China, 16 Starwood hotels participate in the program. The Westin Hotel in Shanghai was the top contributor for 2003, while the St. Regis Hotel in Shanghai was the runner-up. Check Out for Children has raised a total of US $596,746 in China since it was launched here in 1998.
