UNICEF works with the government of China and other partners to support China achieve goals defined in the China 2006-2010 National HIV/AIDS Action Plan and the implementation of the Regulation on Prevention and Control of AIDS, with a special focus on children, young people and their families. The Global Campaign on Children and AIDS will serve as a catalyst to leveraging action and resources for UNICEF and children's partners in China.
Putting Chinese children and young people at front and center of the national AIDS agenda, the Government of China, with support from UNICEF, UNAIDS and other international organizations, launched the Campaign on Children and AIDS on 10 September, 2006. A strong partnership has been formed to unite for and with young people in the fight against AIDS.
The Chinese Campaign will focus on 5 priority areas, or the 5 P's:
1. Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT);
2. Pediatric Care and Treatment;
3. Protection of children orphaned or affected by AIDS;
4. Prevention among young people, especially those vulnerable;
5. Partnership for, and with, children and young people.
These five major goals will be achieved through stigma reduction and through mobilizing young people as a force for change.
