"Ling Yu Olympics Mileage" Brings the Partnership between Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. and UNICEF

Dr. Yin Yin Nwe awarded the Certificate of Recognition to Mr. Chen

20 July 2007, Beijing. Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Volkswagen) has launched a campaign "Ling Yu Olympics Mileage" to start a two-year partnership with UNICEF China.

Shanghai Volkswagen will donate to UNICEF a minimum of RMB 1,000,000 in the first year and a minimum of RMB 800,000 in the second year. The funds will be used to support UNICEF's Child Friendly Schools (CFS) Project in China.

Mr. Chen Zhi Xin, General Manager of Shanghai Volkswagen, Dr. Yin Yin Nwe, UNICEF Representative for China and many specially-invited guests including Mr. Zhou Tie Nong, Vice president of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Mr. Zhang Chao Yang, President of SOHU, Mr. Liu Jun, Deputy Director of Marketing Department of BOCOG attended the launch.

"Shanghai Volkswagen always has in mind the Corporate Social Responsibility during its 22-year development," stressed Mr. Chen Zhi Xin, " and the 'Ling Yu Olympics Mileage' serves as an initiative of conveying love, which will benefit many needy children in western China."

The honored guests launched the "Ling Yu Olympics Mileage"

On behalf of UNICEF China, Dr. Yin Yin Nwe expressed her sincere thanks to Shanghai Volkswagen and stressed that children who receive 5 hours of physical activity per week have better learning performance than those who receive only 40 minutes of physical activity per week. Among primary schools in rural China, 66% of these rural students have less than one hour of physical activity per day due to the lack of sports equipment, sports facilities and teachers who can conduct sports classes. The support from Shanghai Volkswagen for "Sports-in-a-box" Project will benefit about 365 schools or around 125,000 children with 'sports kits', training of teachers to build a culture of sports, booklets for children that promote sports, and training for children in life skills such as leadership, team spirit and participation.
