NICARAGUA: The Flowing River
In the rural village of Punto Arena, 10-year-old Daniel Munoz and his three brothers have the chance to get a quality education at El Riito School. The main focus of the child-friendly schools policy in Nicaragua is to bring access and quality education to the country’s poor and hard-to-reach. Participation at the local level is a hallmark of the Nicaraguan education programme. The story follows Daniel to a school that has implemented a feeding programme, supplied clean water and good hygiene education, built wheelchair-accessible ramps and trained teachers. With support and encouragement from their parents and the community, Daniel and his brothers gain the opportunity to learn about the world around them and dream of a better future.
