What we do in CEECIS

UNICEF works with governments and partners towards realizing children's rights and achieving the Millennium Development Goals. We aim to reach all children, particularly the most vulnerable. UNICEF supports programmes in these areas:

Health and Nutrition

Maternal, newborn health

Promoting emergency obstetric and newborn care to save lives through health reforms and pro-child budgeting.

Immunization

Improving public trust in immunization to eradicate major childhood diseases such as polio and measles

Nutrition

Promoting optimum iodine nutrition and flour fortification as most cost effective public health intervention so children can survive and thrive.

Child Protection

Justice for children

Protecting children who come in contact with the law with emphasis on prevention of juveniles offending and reoffending, rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Violence against children

Preventing abuse and exploitation and working to build a protective environment around every child.

Child care reform

Promoting comprehensive reforms in social protection systems and child care services to better respond to children deprived of parental care.

Economic and Social Policy

Concentrating resources on the most critical problems and the most excluded children

Education

Advocating for improved access to, quality of and equity in education.

Evidence based policy making

Generating the evidence to make the case for investing in pro-child policymaking and budgeting.

HIV and AIDS

Helping children and young people most directly affected by HIV and AIDS to ensure that they have access.

Early Childhood

Integrating early chilhood development within existing systems to support the "whole child" .

Emergency

Supporting countries to prepare for and respond to natural disasters and conflicts throughout the whole region.
