Young People From Around the World Unite for 2007 Junior 8 Summit
Special footage and live coverage available WHO: Seventy-four children and young people – eight from each of the G8 countries and ten from developing nations – will gather for the Junior 8 an international youth conference that parallels the G8 Summit in June in Heiligendamm, Germany. WHAT: Young participants will debate four main themes: Economic development in Africa, HIV/AIDS, climate change and new global challenges – among them intellectual property rights and corporate social responsibility. WHY: This joint initiative by UNICEF and Morgan Stanley International Foundation aims to strengthen the voice of children and young people and enhance their ability to influence decisions at the G8 level that affect children worldwide. The J8 programme seeks also to foster a global youth movement around G8 issues by enabling young people to convene and discuss key global issues and advocate for urgent solutions.
