Day Four of the OneMinutesJr workshop in Turkmenistan – Editing the footage
The fourth day of a OneMinutesJr workshop is traditionally a busy day at the laptops, with importing and editing all the films taking up most of the day. In the meantime, a few of the participants are already discussing new film ideas. Selbi (18) only now starts filming. She had problems coming up with a catchy idea for her film, but now she is ready for action. A friend of hers, Palwan, was a participant at the 2007 OneMinutesJr workshop in Ashgabat and went on to win the annual OneMinutesJr award. His film back then was about a young Turkmen boy who turned down his friends who wanted to play with him, because he had to take care of the animals at home and then make tea for his grandparents and read them a story.
Selbi's story is simple, but it nevertheless has a very clear message. In the filming, she places a woman dressed as a doctor and a teenage boy in a dark room with a spotlight on the table at which the two actors sit. The doctor asks the boy: “So, what do you know about HIV/AIDS?” The boy starts thinking and by the time the minute is over, he still has not said anything...
