OneMinutesJr workshop in Osh, Kyrgyzstan - Day Three
OSH, Kyrgyzstan - November 19, 2010 - The third day of the OneMinutesJr workshop in Osh is the big filming day. The plan is to film the footage for 16 videos today.
In the morning, we all stay at the workshop venue, the Presidential Residence on the outskirts of Kyrgyzstan's second largest city. The five films we produce in the morning all have "abstract" backgrounds, which means that we do not need special film locations but mainly film close-ups and shots with a neutral background. There is an atmospheric film about friendship, one about an over-ambitious sportsman who leaves his friends behind and another one where money destroys a friendship. It is interesting to see how many different levels there are in friendships, seen from the perspective of Kyrgyz teenagers.
In the afternoon, we split up into three groups: The sports group, the school group and the city group. The sports group goes to the city stadium to film a couple of videos that tell about team spirit and the irrelevance of nationality in local sports. The school group has bullying as one of the topics, but there is also an even more serious film where one of the students misses a classmate since the ethnic clashes in June 2010.
The city group produces two films about the city of Osh - one of them is like a tourist video, showing all the nice things here in the south of Kyrgyzstan. The other one plays on the local market and shows fruits and vegetables, spices and eggs - but when the voice-over is ready tomorrow, it will not just be a colourful video about Osh, but a reminder that despite all differences, things and people are more similar than they seem.
In the evening, back at the workshop venue, we are almost done with the filming. Nurzada, who has done a great job throughout the day, helping different groups with the camerawork for their films, is now producing her own film. Her sister has arrived with her two-year-old twins and Nurzada's film is about the importance of a mother's love towards her children - in one word: touching.
The trainers now go into a night-shift and load the footage on the computers before rough edits are made so tomorrow, on the last day of the workshop, the main task will be to finalize the films and produce the voice-overs that will then be added to the timeline.
