LIPCANI, Moldova - October 6, 2010 - On the third day of the OneMinutesJr workshop in the Lipcani youth penitentiary in the far Northwest of Moldova near the border with Ukraine and Romania, it is time to show some of the video works to a group of journalists. The UNICEF Representative in Moldova, Alexandra Yuster, is holding a press conference here today together with Mr. Oleg Pantea, the Chief of the Penitentiary Department of the Moldovan Ministry of Justice.

Alexandra Yuster, the UNICEF Representative, opens the press conference by thanking the Ministry, the penitentiary staff and the young participants for their cooperation. "This is the first ever OneMinutesJr workshop that is held inside a prison - not only in Moldova, but worldwide. It is a great opportunity for us to show to the young people here that while they have made mistakes in the past, they still have the right to express themselves and the right to have their own opinion. By giving them the chance to participate in this workshop, we want to remind them that they are still part of the society."

Filming in the gym under the eyes of the prison guards.

The six young people from our workshop are also present at the press conference, because the four films we have already finished filming and editing are shown on the big screen for the first time. The print, radio and TV journalists who have come all the way from Chisinau are very interested in the stories and take the opportunity to ask the workshop participants further questions after the press conference.

In the afternoon we continue the filming and get to see the prison gym that urgently needs to be repaired. We also raise the question "How many days are there in five and a half years?" in on of the films. Plus, Ion (19) gets a chance to show his technical skills on a tractor engine. A lot of work is still ahead before we can wrap up the workshop tomorrow and present the final films. Especially since some of the participants are already coming with new film ideas...
