OneMinutesJr workshop in Moldova - Day 5
The final day of the workshop in Străşeni starts with the last couple of films that need to be shot. Ion (14) has finally made up his mind and wants to film on the football pitch. Together with his friend Alex he plays football until he hears an adult - it is his "film father" who comes and drags him off by the ear to do his studies. At the end, Ion quotes article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC): "Children have the right to play". Nadea is next. She is acting in a film that shows her begging for money in the streets. At the end of the day, her father takes the money away from her and goes to buy alcohol. Nadea wrote a poem and we do the voice-over for her film - then we add some music and another film with a strong message is finished.
In the afternoon then the final touches are laid on all the films and in the evening when it is getting dark, the projector is switched on for the big presentation. Actually, we had planned an even bigger presentation, in the school-yard with the films shown on the outside of the school building. However, some of the participants are too shy and do not want to have all other students in the boarding-school see their videos "in public", so we decide for the "smaller option" in the workshop room. At the end of the screening of all 21 films, certificates of participation are handed out and the participants thank the trainers and vice versa. Before we leave Străşeni, many of the participants start crying and it is not very difficult to understand what this week has meant to them. It is very hard for them to let us go, but it is also hard for us to leave them. They shared their stories with us, their very personal stories, and when you see the children crying after being with them for only five days, you can only imagine how much they must miss their parents. Finally, because it is time to leave, here is Tudor's film "The Moscow Train" - on the train carriage the boys wrote the words "Mom, come back home!"
