Goodwill Ambassadors beat the drum for children's issues

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors have made the headlines in the year 2008 throughout the CEECIS region.

Serbia's Ana Ivanovic captured the attention on the tennis courts, but also whenever she helped UNICEF Serbia bring smiles into children's faces. Hollywood star Orlando Bloom visited a rehabilitation centre in Moscow, Romania's football legend Gheorghe Hagi joined the ranks of the Goodwill Ambassadors for UNICEF in 2008 and Croatia's national football team coach Slaven Bilic also helps the local UNICEF office as often as possible.

UNICEF celebrity supporters in the CEECIS have a wide range of talents and achievements, but they all share a commitment to improving the lives of children. In each case, celebrities are asked to team up with UNICEF because they have already demonstrated that commitment.

The benefits to UNICEF are clear. Celebrities attract attention, so they can focus that attention on the needs of children in their own countries and beyond. They have access to those with the power to take decisions. They can use their talents and fame to fundraise and advocate for children.
