Young Kazakh filmmaker nominated for OneMinutesJr Award 2008

Shyngys Derbissov (15) from Stepnogorsk, Kazakhstan, is one of the nominees for this year's OneMinutesJr Award. Shyngys was nominated with his film "High and low" which was produced at a OneMinutesJr workshop in Astana in July 2008. The film shows the consequences of drug abuse and was one of the highlights of the Astana workshop which focused on health issues from a child's perspective.

The other nominees in the junior category are:

• Mohammed Majid al-Ghazali from Jordan with "Accident"
• Janis Vitolis from Latvia with "Simple day"
• Richard Issam from Congo with "Les enfants dits sorciers"
• Gidey G / Hiwot Teka from Ethiopia with an untitled film about female genital mutilation
• Lisa Namkafu from Congo with "Un pedophile"
• Sabreen abu Shakra from Jordan with "We want to play inside"

The OneMinutes Awards 2008 will be given out during a ceremony in the Paradiso in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on November 30, 2008.
