Financial Crisis & Food SecurityThe global economic crisis and its impact on food and water security are matters of concern throughout Central and Eastern Europe & the Commonwealth of Independent States. Safe water is scarce in parts of the Balkans and Central Asia, and poverty-striken populations are vulnerable to climatic events such as droughts or harsh winters. UNICEF works to improve the access of vulnerable children to nutritious supplies of food and safe drinking water. This series of evocative videos, filmed and produced by journalist Peter George for UNICEF Television, in May 2009, illustrates starkly the issues of food and water security for children and families in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and the UN-administered province of Kosovo.
