UNICEF-developed textbook receives an award at a top Russian education forum
MOSCOW, Russia - October 22, 2008
A textbook developed by United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF and Dagestan State Pedagogical University has been awarded a golden medal at the Forum and exhibition Russia Education Week 2008, held in early October at the All-Russian Exhibition Center in Moscow.
The Forum and exhibition Russia Education Week 2008 is one of the most influential events in the field of education where innovative methodologies and cutting edge education techniques are presented. About 350 organizations took part in the exhibition this year, including higher education institutions, secondary schools and vocational schools from all over Russia, and companies that provide educational services and products.
The textbook “Teaching children’s rights” won an award in the “Developments and innovative solutions in the field of higher education” category. It is the first textbook devoted to the theme of child rights promotion for higher education institutions that train teachers. The textbook is interactive and intended for second and fifth year students.
UNICEF supported the introduction of a new course on children’s rights protection in the curriculum of the Dagestan State Pedagogical University and will work towards replication of this unique course in other regions of the Russian Federation.
