JETIX Kids Cup 2006 kicks off in Georgia.

UNICEF unites with other partners to advocate against tobacco and drugs   

TBILISI. 14 APRIL 2006. The Jetix Kids Cup formally known as the Fox Kids Cup has officially been launched in Georgia today. Unite for Children will be the main slogan of the football tournament supported by UNICEF in Georgia together with Coca-Cola and Elit Electronics companies. The football championship organized by the most popular independent TV company in Georgia Rustavi 2 targets the children up to 13 and aims at promoting healthy lifestyle among children.  

“We will be united through the championship to promote healthy lifestyle and to advocate against tobacco and drugs, - says Mr Jano Zhvania, project coordinator from the Rustavi 2 TV company, - The Jetix Kids Cup is the only world football tournament organized by the media and we do think this is the best way to engage children and to build an alliances around children”.

The Jetix Kids Cup has seen its third year in Georgia and has already gained an enormous popularity among children, both boys and girls. The tournament will be held in 20 cities of Georgia and 4000 children are supposed to take part in it. The final games will be held in Tbilisi on 1 June, Children’s Protection Day in Georgia. Winner teams of boys and girls will be representing Georgia at the Jetix Kids Cup Finals to be held in July in Munich, Germany. 

“Football is more than play for UNICEF and we do think it is a very powerful tool in promoting tolerance and peace among young people, - says Ms Giovanna Barberis, UNICEF Representative in Georgia - Since 2001 UNICEF in Georgia has been active in supporting various football tournaments aimed at promotion of healthy lifestyle among children. We will continue to use sport as a very important tool for education and for promotion of core values in children like self-respect and cooperation”.

14 countries throughout the world will take part into the Jetix Kids Cup 2006. Georgia is the only country from the CEE/CIS region participating into the tournament.

The Jetix Kids Cup formally known as the Fox Kids Cup is an annual global football tournament for boys and girls under 13 years of age. The aim of the Jetix kids cup is to combine the world's most popular sport with the exposure of the global Jetix brand to promote the values of sportsmanship, active lifestyle, and cultural exchange among young people from around the world. Now in its seventh year, the Jetix Kids cup is firmly established as the largest event of its kind organized by a media company in the world.

In 2006, Jetix will continue the tradition of the Jetix Kids Cup by holding the International Final in Munich, Germany at the Munich Olympic Stadium in the 2006 World Cup year. The main partner of the tournament is UNICEF worldwide.
