“Facts for Life: Nutrition and Growth” is now available in the Tajik language to improve feeding practices of young childrenDUSHANBE,
7 February 2013 – UNICEF in cooperation with the
Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan releases the publication “Facts
for Life: Nutrition and Growth” in the Tajik language. Its intention is to
improve feeding practices of young children.
Aiming to save lives of children, the “Facts for Life” publication is
globally known as a handbook that provides evidence-based information to
parents, caregivers and communities on child health, care and development. “The messages
contained in this publication are based on the latest scientific findings and
presented in simple language so they can be understood and acted upon easily by
all people,” said M. Laylee Moshiri, UNICEF Representative in Tajikistan. “Improving the
nutritional status of children in Tajikistan is a priority and this publication
and other related activities are important steps to highlight essential
nutrition practices that care-takers of children should be aware of. Such
interventions have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of children
and can also save lives”. UNICEF supported the
publication and distribution of 5000 copies of “Facts for Life: Nutrition and Growth” to make it available in every health centre across the
country. In addition, a series of audio and video spots with key facts from
this publication will also be aired to achieve wider coverage. “The simple and
vital information that this publication presents is aimed to improve knowledge of parents and
families on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding and
salt iodisation,” said Mr. Sherali Rahmatullaev, Director of the Mother and
