Ana Ivanovic promotes Olympic values in school violence prevention
On the eve of the 2012 Olympics, famous tennis player and UNICEF Serbia National Ambassador Ana Ivanovic meets with pupils from 10 primary and secondary schools that implement the “School without Violence” programme
Belgrade, Serbia, 6 June 2012 – On the eve of the forthcoming Olympic Games, UNICEF National Ambassador for Serbia Ana Ivanovic met in Belgrade with pupils from 10 primary and secondary schools who are implementing the “School without Violence” programme thanks to Ana's direct support. The famous tennis player talked with children about the importance of nurturing Olympic values and spirit in sport and in life alike, respect for others and friendship.
Children informed Ana about the success they have achieved through the “School without Violence” programme in developing the culture of non-violence, establishing the spirit of solidarity and understanding of others.
“Sport and the values that characterise it are important for children and young people in developing self-esteem, commitment to teamwork, problem-solving, respect each other and nurturing friendships. Adopting these fundamental values can also help decrease violence and bullying in schools and create a better and more enabling environment for children and youth,” Ana Ivanovic said.
The gathering was also attended by pledge donors who support UNICEF by their regular donations and help achieving better protection and realisation of child rights. “Sincere thanks and congratulations to our donors for joining UNICEF family. It is only with their support that we can, even today, make Serbia and the world a better place for all children. I would like to take this opportunity to yet again appeal to and invite all people of good will to join us and become members of the Club of UNICEF Friends,” Ana said.
AI, appointed UNICEF Serbia NA in 2007, promotes and supports the anti-bullying “Swithout V” programme in primary and secondary schools, and with her private donations has enabled 16 schools to join the pme which aims at creating a safe and enabling environment for children.
