CEECIS regional meeting of parliamentarians: Making child rights a reality for the most vulnerable of childrenMEDIA ADVISORY
Date and Place of Conference: 14 -16 June 2011, Yerevan, Armenia
Organizers: The National Assembly of Armenia in collaboration with UNICEF and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Attending: around 40 parliamentarians from 10 countries (Armenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Serbia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine).
Purpose of the event: It will address how the functions of parliament can serve to protect children and ensure respect for their rights, with a particular focus on the oversight role. Experience from various countries will be presented, and specific case studies addressed.
The Conference will focus on two specific issues:
1) "Protecting children from violence" with the focus on the legislative and oversight role of the Parliaments and linking with the Council of Europe campaign against violence,
2) "Investing in good start in life for the most vulnerable children" with the focus on parliament’s role in budget allocation and implementation oversight.
Place and time of event: Official opening starts at 11:30 on 14 June, 2011 at the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

* 16 June, 2011 16:00 p.m - Press conference by representatives of UNICEF (Laylee Moshiri, Representative in Armenia), IPU (Kareen Jabre, IPU Manager of the Gender and Partnership Programme) and the National Assembly of Armenia (Ara Babloyan, Head of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health Care, Maternity and Childhood) at “Armenia Marriott” Hotel, Tigran the Great Conference Hall.
