Call for applications - Video workshop for teenagers in Kyiv, Ukraine

© UNICEF / Chris Schuepp / 2008

What: Video reporting workshop for Russian-speaking teenagers

Where: Kyiv, Ukraine

When: May 13-17, 2009

Teenagers from the following countries can apply:

Russian Federation – Belarus – Ukraine – Moldova – Armenia – Georgia – Azerbaijan – Kazakhstan – Uzbekistan – Tajikistan – Kyrgyzstan – Turkmenistan

Aim of the training workshop:

The participants will gain reporting skills as well as editing / uploading skills to be able to contribute on a regular basis to a regional youth-produced video magazine (vodcast). They will continue working from their respective countries, using a UNICEF-supported online portal for young videomakers.

Language of the training workshop:

Russian and English. The produced video will be in Russian with English subtitles and will be placed on several online platforms and websites. It will also be made available to TV stations for free upon request.

Travel costs:

UNICEF will cover the travel costs as well as accommodation (full-board) for all selected participants and their chaperones. There is no participation fee.

Other issues:

Applicants should be between 13 and 19 years of age and from the above-mentioned countries. Your mother tongue does not have to be Russian, but it would help if you are fluent in Russian and comfortable using the language. Prior filming/editing skills are appreciated, but not absolutely necessary. It is more important to us that you have stories to tell and that you want to tell them. If you work with an NGO or a student committee or a similar organization on a voluntary basis, please let us know in your “motivation letter“. Once selected, we would like to encourage the chosen participants to bring unedited footage or rough edits on children's / youth issues from their home countries that we can work on together in Kyiv.

To apply, please send a CV (resume) and a short “motivation letter“ in English and/or Russian to cschuepp@unicef.org

The deadline for applications is March 31, 2009.
