OneMinutesJr workshop in Kotor - Day 4

Dobrota, MONTENEGRO, 26 September 2013 - On day 4 of the OneMinutesJr video workshop in Montenegro we will focus on the editing of the 20 films the children have written and filmed so far this week.

We stressed it from the very beginning, but still it is not so easy for children to understand that a "video" consists not only of images but also of sounds. Every time you record moving images with you video camera you also record sound and in most films you also use that sound - or different sounds - to express different things, moods, impressions in your film. We are very fortunate this time that the group we work with has a lot of talented musicians. So the soundtracks to the films can be created by the children themselves and today they brought their instruments: Guitars, violins, violas and then there is also a piano in the school that we can use.

There is one film left we have to film today, the rest is already imported to the laptops and being edited by the trainers together with the participants. Only Andrija (13) has not filmed his movie yet because he has been playing with different ideas over the last few days and changed his mind a few times since a couple of ideas did not turn out well enough or it was not possible to film them in the short time we have.

But with the musical instruments his OneMinutesJr idea finally came to light today. Andrija plays the guitar and the vibrations of the strings led us to an idea. Earthquakes are measured on the Richter scale and a seismograph graphically tracks the vibrations of the earth. What if we show the different levels on the Richter scale on the guitar...?

The rest of the day is simple editing, editing, editing. Well, not so simple because we have 20 films to finish and every single movie deserves the same attention and we want all of them to be "perfect". There is already a bit of a competition among the participants about who will produce the best film. We encourage the enthusiasm but will not vote a "best film" today. This is up to a professional jury at the end of the year when the best OneMinutesJr videos will be selected in cooperation with a youth jury.

The current nominees for 2013 are in a special gallery on the OneMinutesJr website right now and while we are busy editing the films here in Montenegro, feel free to take a look to bridge the time until we have everything ready.
