Making Europe and Central Asia Fit for Children

[Final report on the conference]
June 19, 2006 will mark the commencement of the Third Intergovernmental Conference on Making Europe and Central Asia Fit For Children. Over 50 countries from across this region will come together in Palencia, Spain to review progress in the implementation of child rights as defined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Some of the issues that will come under review include legislation and monitoring mechanisms, violence against children, and the impact of poverty and social exclusion upon children and their families.
This conference is the third in a series of meetings that were initially hosted in Berlin in 2002 and Sarejavo in 2004. Hosting this conference is the Spanish Government (Ministro de Trabajo y Asuntos Sociales), in coordination with the Spanish National Committee for UNICEF and UNICEF Regional Offices for Europe and CEE/CIS.
