MICS4 in CEE/CIS

The fourth round of Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) is scheduled for 2009-2011. Survey results are expected to be from 2010 on. The following nine countries in CEE/CIS have confirmed their intention to conduct MICS4.

As in previous rounds, the MICS4 questionnaires were developed through consultations with relevant experts from UN organizations, interagency monitoring groups and the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Programme. The questionnaires were field tested in a pilot survey carried out in the beginning of 2009.

Several new modules mentioned below as well as a men`s questionnaire have been added to MICS4 that are particularly relevant to the countries in CEE/CIS. Some other modules have been further enchanced.

• Access to mass media and use of information/communication technology
• Life satisfaction
• Tobacco and alcohol use
• Early childhood development outcomes

The MICS process was designed to strengthen national statistical capacities and takes into account the findings and recommendations of MICS3 evaluation.
