United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
USAID carries out U.S. foreign policy by promoting broad-scale human progress at the same time it expands stable, free societies, creates markets and trade partners for the United States, and fosters good will abroad. USAID’s current programme reaches all 24 provinces in Cambodia and its portfolio is expanding into new programme areas, including food security and climate change.
USAID supports UNICEF in Cambodia in its work on child protection and maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition. UNICEF, with USAID support, has implemented a programme on the elimination of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) in Cambodia. USAID support has also enabled UNICEF to work with the Royal Government of Cambodia to strengthen systems (policies, government structures, institutions, etc) to protect children from abuse, exploitation and neglect. With USAID’s support, over 1,700 vulnerable families (including many affected by HIV /AIDS) and their children have received support through the Buddhist Leadership Initiative and increased usage of iodised salt in households which in turn has positive impacts on women and children’s health.
