Ministry of Local Government launches key documents on child welfare/protection with the support of UNICEF

Botswana, Francistown, September 2011: The Ministry of Local Government launched four strategic documents related to the protection, care and support of orphans and vulnerable children in Botswana. These strategic documents include the Botswana National Plan of Action for OVC 2010-2016, The Child Sexual Abuse Communication Strategy 2010-2014, The Guidelines for the Operation of the Children’s Consultative Forum, User Friendly Guidelines for the Children’s Act 2009 and Standards of Care Guidelines.

Government highlighted the fact that the documents will provide guidance, direction and standardize operations for child welfare and child protection in Botswana. It appreciated all those who contributed to the development of the documents, and especially thanked UNICEF for its continued technical and financial support. UNICEF congratulated the Ministry’s efforts in striving to fulfil international commitments on children and in ensuring that the country achieves the MDGs and Botswana’s Vision 2016.
