Wise Up Campain Situation Analysis/Background

Botswana is one of the countries hardest hit by HIV in the world.  By 2008 HIV prevalence was estimated at 17.6[1]% in the general population.  HIV prevalence among boys and girls is almost the same for up to 14 years of age.  However, among the age groups 15-19 and 20-24 years girls are twice likely to be infected as boys.  The 2008 Botswana AIDS Impact survey shows that about 18 000 children aged 10 -19 are HIV positive.
