DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD 2011Day of the African Chid -16 June 2011 Preparations are underway to mark this day in Botswana, led by the Department of Social Services, Ministry of Local Government.The Theme for this year will be "All together for urgent actions in favour of Street Children". The commemoration of this day was commissioned by the African Union (then Organization of African Unity) in 1991 for states to reaffirm their commitment to the realisation of children’s rights, for every child. The date was chosen to honour the memory of those children killed during the Soweto Uprising in South Africa on June 16, 1976.
