UNICEF Bolivia country programme 2008 - 2012

UNICEF works within the framework of five-year cooperation programs which have been agreed to and signed with the Bolivian Government. In order to implement them, UNICEF joins Bolivian government institutions, non-governmental organizations, social organizations, and the private sector.

At present, the 2008 – 2012 cooperation program is in the process of implementation.  Its purpose is to contribute so that in each stage of their lives Bolivian boys, girls, and adolescents can survive, grow, and develop their capacities within an inclusive framework, with respect for cultural diversity and gender equality.

  • In early childhood, between 0 and 5 years of age, the program will contribute to children being registered, well-fed, and healthy, also so that they can develop their physical, cognitive, and emotional potential.
  • During childhood, it will contribute so that boys and girls between 6 and 13 years of age can complete their basic education (both initial and primary) in conditions of good quality and cultural relevance.
  • During adolescence, considering it lasts from 12 to 18 years of age, the program will contribute so adolescents can avail themselves of possibilities to receive education for life, and so that they have skills, opportunities, and are empowered to exert their rights, and have protection against any kind of violence, mistreatment, and exploitation.

Relationship to international priorities

The programme contributes to the goals and focus areas of the UNICEF medium-term strategic plan (MTSP), Millenium Development Goals and A World Fit for Children, as detailed in the summary results matrix.

The programme will respect key principles of national leadership and harmonization espoused by the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness; support United Nations reform at all levels; and address UNICEF regional priorities of HIV/AIDS, malnutrition, excluded populations, disparities, violence and emergencies.
