President of Congress promises to make the National Child and Adolescent Parliament a national institution

Álvaro García Linera attended closing ceremonies of the 4th Session of the National Parliament.

La Paz - Bolivia June 27, 2008.- President of the Bolivian Congress, Álvaro García Linera, made a commitment today to make the National Child and Adolescent Parliament a national institution. It was assigned a 50-thousand-dollar annual budget to support its functions and provide it with infrastructure, in order to give continuity to the proposals of its child and adolescent representatives, who were in session today.
“We must ensure that the Child and Adolescent Congress continues on as an institution, and of course, next month we should budget finances to ensure its continuity and that it becomes a national institution, and by next year we will have included a 50/thousand/dollar budget. I can assure you the next year, this congress will be operating using its own budget …apart from any outside collaboration,” affirmed Linera.
Linera attended the closing ceremonies of the 4th Session of the National Child and Adolescent Parliament of Bolivia, which took place today, with 130 boys and girls in attendance at the Honourable House of Representatives and 27 adolescents in the Honourable House of Senators.
The President of the Social Policy Commission, Guillermo Mendoza, stated that it is very important that the Bolivian State finance a permanent office for at the government seat so child and adolescent parliamentarians can hold sessions throughout the year.
